Crazy things I'v seen...when driving

I drive a lot for work, and on the way to one of my stores the other day saw the MOST craziest thing EVER! I mean I have seen Moms smoking in the car with children in the back seat, car seats in the front seat of a car and 5 or 6 kids shoved into the back of cars not buckled in, and that drives me INSANE! But I also seen some dumb and really crazy things driving, and came up with this list.

We have an overpass near our house that goes over 3 or 4 other bridges to get onto the freeway (696) and when I was pregnant with Erica, yes 13 years ago, we were going over this bridge, and was passed by a speeding motorcycle, as we got to the top of the hill, we see him wipe out at the bottom of the hill, his bike roll, and the driver flies into a grassy median. The guy got up and walked away, miraculously, but the bike was pretty messed up. We stopped and helped him up and called for help. It was so scary to see, and crazy that the guy was walking and fine afterward.

While on my way to Flint a couple years ago, I saw a truck with a camper lose control and the camper flipped. I have never seen so much debris in the freeway in my life! The camper was destroyed and looked like it was made of paper.

When driving from one house to another one Thanksgiving, we saw a Great Dane dog on the inside shoulder of the freeway. He or she was just sitting there watching the cars go by. if Erica wasn't so young at the time, we would have probably stopped and seen if it would have came with us in the car. But she was a toddler, and we weren't sure if it would eat her, so we just called the cops. They must have gotten a million calls because they were rude, and short with me. Poor doggie...I always wondered how a dog could get where it was. (696 between Coolidge and Woodward) the freeway is all concrete, tunnel like, not many exits there.

Driving home from work a day last summer, I came up to a hill on the freeway and a bunch of brake lights. As all four lanes slowed down, I came up on an accident, minor fender bender, where both cars were in the far lane but not on the shoulder. Both car owners were standing in the lane with their cars talking, during rush hour, some guy in the car next to me yelled at them, HEY TAKE IT ON THE SHOULDER YOU F******* UP TRAFFIC YOU IDIOTS!!!

Last spring there was a jumper on one of the pedestrian bridges by my house, this shut down a major freeway for hours and caused back ups on the other major freeways nearby mostly all day. When driving home at 7pm (this started at 11am) the freeway was still closed and the guy was still up there, and we had to take the service drive to get home. On the side of the freeway were HUNDREDS of people watching what was going on, taking pictures, kids watching and playing on the side of the freeway. I was appalled, and could not believe it was like a parade was coming through, what if this guy jumped in front of all these kids and splattered on the freeway?!?!? I couldn't believe it. He didn't jump, thank god, but I just couldn't believe people would want to watch that.

Last summer, a tanker exploded on a freeway nearby and black smoke could be seen for miles. Again crazy people were on the side of the freeway watching this as the news and media were telling everyone to go inside and shut all your windows, the fumes could possibly do you harm.

The other day when driving to work, on a major freeway, in the city of Detroit, I see a couple cars tap their brakes. There isn't much traffic so I slow down a bit, there are four lanes of traffic, and what I see next is the craziest thing I have ever saw while driving...there is a car stopped in the 3 lane, next to the fast lane that I am in, and there is a guy putting gas in his gas tank. Ok, I know it is possible to run out of gas on the freeway, BUT there is plenty of time to get over to the shoulder, one way or the other, while you are cruising at 70 miles a hour! OMG I seriously closed my eyes as I flew past him because I was scared out of my mind. What if there was more traffic? or a big truck in front of me and I couldn't see this guy and got over and ran into him? The grave possibilities were endless for bad things happening. I was just SHOCKED!

See any thing crazy on your way to work, or as your out and about? crazier than mine? comment me and let me know ...I just couldn't believe this last one.

Delete that spam...also add the word verification to help keep those away in the future!!

OK..confession...that Great Dane was Kobe...we tried to get rid of him, but he found his way home. Damn dog! That was the only smart thing he ever did!

I meant that I got that crap too from spammers and the word verification helps (that sounded bossy to me, but that is not how I meant it...say it in a sweet sing-songy voice...lol)

I'd rather be camping... said...

I have seen some scary things; the worst was a dead old woman by a hit and run driver, missing an eye. This was in out hood in the 80s, coming home from MM.

A car full of teenagers flip over due to the Santa Anna winds. It was slow motion, the wind just took the Yugo and flipped it into the mountain in San Bernadino. They were amazingly ok.

A man with a fake orange arm waiving for help on the side of The Lodge. My friend Jen and I stopped because we figured he couldn't kill us both with one arm. He ended up being cool.

Fun post Rhonda!
